PSU Connections... Craig Coope 11-06-07

I've been doing a lot of reading online recently concerning PSUs etc
but I'm a little confused...

There are obviously different groups of cables coming out of the PSU.
Some with different connectors on them...

Which is which?

The reason I ask is that my GPU is supposed to run with a PSU that has
30A on the 12V rail...what exactly does this mean? is a rail one of
the groups of cables that comes out of the psu?

How do I know which is which?

It would help if you said which PSU and GPU you are talking about.

chieftec 360W (Yeah I know it's not that powerful) but the Graphics
card works...

Well if it's working, it's working! I presume you have the power connectors
plugged into the card? (you must have or it wouldn't work).

My guess would be though, you must be close to the limit of what your PSU
can do, bit difficult to say without knowing everything in the box.

If you want to know which cable does what, have a look at the Chieftec
website, there's probably something on there for your PSU.

Thanks for both of your advice...

Basically I plugged 2 molex into the card at first and it didn't work
(the cables had other devices on them) So instead I found an unused
cable with 3 molex on it and another smaller pin connector which was
unused on the psu. I plugged 2 of the molex into the card and
everything worked. I'm not sure if it was the right thing to do
though...I have no idea of the power that goes to that cable (if
indeed that is how a psu works - diff power for different groupings of
cables)

I'll have a look for a manual....
