Please log in for more thread options I have recently built a PC. It worked fine for around 2-3 weeks. After this it sometimes locks up (i.e. no mouse/keyboard response & cannot ping it from another PC). This happens at seemingly random intervals and sometimes happens when the PC is not doing much. It has Windows XP SP2, fully updated and McAfee anti virus fully up to date. The lock up does not occur every day and not after a consistent time interval. (Today it locked up after 15 minutes after the first boot and then immediately after login after the next boot). The problem did not occur at all for the past four days. It has only locked up about 8 times in total, but this is too much to ignore. It's made of good quality components - Seasonic 430W PSU, Gigabyte GA965P-DS4 mb, Corsair TwinX XMS2 memory, Intel E6420, Gigabyte 7600GT, 2 x Samsung spinpoint HD. I am fairly experienced in building PCs but I have never had this problem before. I have run memtest86 for a couple of hours and no problems there. Temperatures are fine too. There are no errors/warnings in the event log. I have updated & reset the BIOS and installed the latest drivers. Does anyone know how I can tell if it is a hardware or software fault? I know more trouble than it's worth.I always recommend get rid f it first thing on a new PC. Or any other, for that matter. Also, check your temps.High temps can cause your symptoms too. > Hi,

Please log in for more thread options I read that the Intel E-6000 series CPUs have a problem that causes
freeze-ups. I have an E-6600 in an EVGA board. I built it last month and had the same problem. They came out with a BIOS flash that contained a fix for it. It's been working fine ever since. So, check for a BIOS update. I also had a similar problem with a machine that didn't have the whole hard drive formatted. Windows installation only did the first 120 something of a 200 gig drive and left the rest of it twisting in the wind. I didn't notice it for a week or so and then created another partition and formatted it. That fixed that problem. Annoying, isn't it. Good luck > Hi,
