If I leave my computer alone for too long, my monitor screen goes
black, the LED on it goes from green to dark yellow, and sometimes
nothing I do will make it wake up again. I have to Reset, which
isn't so bad, but I'd like the thing to wake up normally.

It's a CRT-based NEC Multisync XE15 monitor and I'm running win98SE.
System standby is set for "never" and turn off monitor is set for 15
minutes.

Usually moving the mouse is enough to wake it up, the LED changes back
to green, and it warms up and is fine. If the mouse doesn't work, the
keyboard won't work either. I've found that pressing cntl-alt-delete
sometimes brings up that box and after that the monitor is ok, but
sometimes that doesn't work.

Any suggestions?

Thanks

This usually indicates an old/buggy hardware driver that
can't resume from a sleep state. Try updating the drivers,
especially video driver.

Given the potential age of a system running Win98, it might
also be time to do routine maintenance like checking cards
and cables, cleaning out dust - and while you're inside,
check for failed fans and capacitors. A weak or failing
power supply can also cause instability when going from a
sleep to higher powered state, if you had a spare PSU lying
around I'd suggest trying it, though trying newer drivers
and OS power management settings changes first.

I will do that. Thanks.

The computer is a lot newer than the OS. I just move the HD to the new
computer. I finally bought XP a week ago, because too many things
wouldn't run on Win98.
