Please log in for more thread options sometimes even low 60C's??? and [always] I will IDLE at 40-44C??? NOTE: I Installed the CPU with the stock HSF and the Stock clay thermal pad. Also note a friend of mine bought and installed the exact same computer , I mean the _exact_ same computer, even installed his the same way. Is there something I can do? BTW, he never goes above 47-48C on his computer ever. I wish I could speed up the fan, mine runs around 3300RPM, trust me I could deal with 4400rpm Please help me, please??? Here are the computer details below, it you need more details let me know. thanks people, --- System BIOS Date 08/26/05 -- Motherboard Name Asus A8S-X North Bridge SiS 756 Bus Type DDR SDRAM Bus Width 64-bit CPU Sockets/Slots 1 Socket 939 Form Factor ATX Motherboard Chipset SiS756 CPU Type AMD Athlon 64, 2000 MHz (10 x 200) 3200+ CPUID CPU Name AMD Athlon(tm) 64 Processor 3200+ CPU Alias Venice S939 CPUID Revision 00020FF2h AMD Brand ID 010Ah (Athlon 64 3200+) Platform ID D1h (Socket 939) Module Name Corsair VS1GB400C3 Module Size 1024 MB (2 ranks, 4 banks) Module Type Unbuffered Memory Type DDR SDRAM Memory Speed PC3200 (200 MHz) Module Width 64 bit @ 200 MHz 3.0-3-3-8 (CL-RCD-RP-RAS) Video Adapter nVIDIA GeForce 6800 GS GPU Code Name NV41GS Memory Size 256 MB Bus Type GDDR3 Bus Width 256-bit Drive Drive #1 - Maxtor 6L080P0 (76 GB) OS Name Microsoft Windows XP Home Edition OS Version 5.1.2600 (WinXP Retail) OS Installation Date 3/25/2006 ----

Please log in for more thread options We need a better indicator of the relative cooling... Run a stress test meant to put the CPU near a full load, a known variable of load... Prime95's Torture Test, the Large In-Place FFTs, setting, should run for about 30 minutes then leave it running and note the temp. Then note the room ambient temp. The difference between these two is the rise over ambient at (near) full load, an important parameter to isolate the situation some. When you wrote that your friend has same computer you mean the case and it's fans too? Is his ambient, room temp the same? Keep in mind that you may need measure the room temp near the system. One system might be near a heat duct (cool or hot air coming through it, depending on season), or near a window, or a sun through a window, or other variables that can effect temp a few degrees. Check Task Manager to see what's running in the background. Some things can be poorly written and take up idle CPU time causing a higher temp, like Printer drivers, messaging or PSP apps, or anything really, even a virus or spyware. Close down any supplimental software running in the background and then see if the game temps are the same. >
>I wish I could speed up the fan, mine runs around 3300RPM, trust me I >could deal with 4400rpm It shouldn't be necessary... except in a hot room and then it'll be louder. Are you sure you installed the heatsink properly? If all else fails, take the heatsink off, clean off the original thermal interface material (petroleum solvent is usually the easiest way), and apply a tiny bit of a synthetic thermal compound such as Arctic Silver, Alumina, Ceramique, or any other brand so long as it's synthetic, not silicone based. You might also check your CPU voltage, perhaps with a software monitor type program or in the bios and compare (via Google search) to what yours is supposed to use. Also check the system fan intake areas, if they're clogged with dust or mostly on the bottom of the case bezel and case sits on carpeting, that can hamper air intake. If the intake is ample and the exhaust fans seem working properly then I'd take the 'sink off and remount with thermal compound. Thermal compound shouldn't make much difference, but perhaps it's not mounted well and once the heatsink is taken off once, the original thermal material cannot be reused.

Oh I don't know, maybe the fact that the temp on my computer is 12C higher than the temp on the same exact comp on my friends comp? Maybe that part? Perhaps I need a bullet?

But unless it is made from exactly the same components mounted in the

LOL.
