When I fill all 4 memory slots with GEIL 1 Gb modules, systems becomes very
slow, i.e. unsable.

With 3 or less modules, no problems.

Any ideas?

Addition: All modules are in order, because I checked them individually in
original pairs. Newest BIOS is also installed.

The solution may depend on what OS you used.
(E.g. Win98 requires configuration tweaks to use
more than half a Gb RAM, other OSs may be
similarly limted.)

i use Win XP both 32-bit and 64-bit versions, and they are both acting up.

Don't run the OS at all until you have confirmed stability
with Memtest86+. At this point you may have already caused
file corruption and may need to do a clean OS install after
you have gotten the memory stable.

Try manually setting the memory timings to higher (slower)
values and retest w/Memtest86+
