What eats the signals from my Ocelot? I know if I plug my laptop into the same power point as a lamp module I cannot turn on that light. What other gear eats X10 signals.

It's probably a matter of the laptop power supply generating enough RF noise on the power line that the X10 signal is swamped. A lot of appliances with switching power supplies will do this - including some TV's, UPS's, stereos.
