Forget about it. You will never have 100% perfect CPU
performance, memory performance, hard drive performance,
etc, etc. Either choose gigabit to get the very real
performance benefits it has over lesser networking or forget
about it. If you just want to tweak gigabit performance you
can google search for that and make efforts to ensure the
rest of your system, areas like hard drive or (if
applicable) PCI bus aren't bottlenecking the network
interface.
