Please log in for more thread options I hope this is the best place for posting this. If it's not please refer me to where I should go. Yesterday my netbsd kernel was yielding weird stuff about some "uncorrectable data error" while I was compiling the ghc. So I thought it might have something to do with my hard disk. smarctl gives me that my hardware info is: Device Model: BI-MJDAS2-02 Serial Number: 4 T444YZ7693 Firmware Version: SJO4CAA7 Device is: Not in smartctl database [for details use: -P showall] ATA Versuion is: 5 ATA Standard is: ATA/ATAPI-5 T13 1321D revision 1 Local Time is: Sun Mar 19 22:56:55 2006 BRT SMART support is: Available - device has SMART capability. SMART support is: Enabled My computer is an acer laptop as specified in the following site: http://www.acersupport.com/notebook/html/tm612txci_specs.html So I did a smartctl -t long /dev/wd0d and it gave me the following: # smartctl -l selftest /dev/wd0d Num Test Description Status Remaining LifeTime(hours) LBA_of_first_error # 1 Extended offline Completed: read failure 60% 5982 21638132 The short version (smartctl -t short /dev/wd0d) completes without errors. I hope this is enough information for someone give me orientation on what I should do to fix this problem or some workaround, if it's possible. I'm actually not sure what it is, based on the information posted here I suppose that I have some bad sectors. PS: I'm using smartctl 5.32 compiled using pkgsrc on NetBSD 3.0. Thank you for your attention, Rafael | ||||||||||
