hey all, I have a question, I have been told that dvd writers only
have a certian number burns and then they begin to fail. Does this
carry any weight? If so, how many? thanks for listening.-J

All devices will wear out eventually.
In the case of DVD burners...it's more likely to eventually develop some
type of mechanical failure
before the laster actually goes.

DVD burners are pretty inexpensive and will probably last for many years so
I would not really worry about it.

Just like human (myself at least) DVD writer and all hardwares will wear
out and need replacement, and some may last longer/shorter than expected. I
can't count mine but I believe the current one may have 2-3 thousands DVD
brunt (the older one had several thousands and I moved it to other system to
replace with faster burner).

Both burners have been going strong so I expect at least few thousands
more before I toss away for newer and better one.
