I see that even TFT TVs now are widescreen only. Doesn't that mean that the
picture will be deformed, since analogue tv signal is 4:3?

No... It means that you will have black bars at the sides of the picture.

So the full screen will be used only when playing back DVDs?

No, any wide screen content will use the entire screen.

True, though some TVs also have more options like zooming
the picture so it crops off the top and bottom in order to
fill the sides (instead of having black bars), or to deform
it by stretching instead of zooming. If only they came up
with a good way to get rid of those channel logos in the
corner of the screen, cropping loses too much of the picture
if source is 4:3, IMO.
