I have a Compaq Presario SR1303WM and it has a 40 GIG hard drive. I
have bought a 80 Gig Western Digital hard drive (MDL WD800JB-00FMA0)
if that means anything. Anyways I want to know if I can combin the
two together in the same computer? If not and I have to go with the
80 Gig hard drive, how can I erase the information on it already. I
installed it once and used the system restore disk that I made with
the 40 gig hard drive so I could install the information to the 80
gig. Something happened to the install and it keeps rebooting, and
now I cannot get it to work. A friend told me to just add it as a
slave hard drive. I am so confused can anyone help me out?

your existing system should be capable of accepting the 80 gig as a slave
drive.

Set the 80 gig jumpers to slave. Instructions are usually on the case label.

The cable (IDE) going from MOBo to your 40 gig drive should have a plug half
way along its length. This plugs into the relative socket on the back of the
80 gig.

You should also have spare power plugs somewhere inside the comp, look
around for a spare white connector, approx 15mm x 5mm with 2 corners knocked
off. This ensures the plug only plugs into the hard drive one way. Plug this
into the power socket on the 80 gig. If you can't find a spare, adapters can
be purchased from your local comp shop or online.

Don't forget to do all this work with comp power off and the plug cable
disconnected.
