Please log in for more thread options bad. I removed it. The remaining disk continues to operate normally - for now. However, I get a "critical" warning from the RAID controller every time I boot - but it does succeed without issues. I would like to eliminate this warning and continue with only one disk. Preferably in a single-disk non-RAID config. But, whatever. How can I do that? Do I have to rebuild from scratch? What happens if I use [ctrl-F] to enter the RAID management and simply "delete the array"? Will I be able to reconfigure to boot from that remaining disk or will it require to be rebuilt completely as a single IDE? Thanks, -Frank

Please log in for more thread options I've had the same thing happen with two promise controllers. Just go into the raid managment and delete the array, you may have to go into bios to set whatever hard drive controller it's on as non raid, but ultimately either disk will work as a complete boot disk. On my Asus P4C800E-D board, I had dificulty with the SATA raid controller, so I just plugged the disk into a different SATA connector >

From that point it will either boot without stopping or a warning, or it will still display something - if it does display something then define the drive as a single span... not stripe. Be careful of this choice, the manual should detail how to do it without wiping out the data.

Try to boot off the backup (with the assumption being, the backup has no metadata on it). If the backup won't boot, then you know that "deleting the array" on the original disk, would be a bad idea. If the backup does boot, then you can delete the array on the original disk, and try booting with it. If that doesn't work, you still have the backup, which you could continue to use. I recommend off site back up. Preferably out of state. We did that way back when. Lost the studio down to the foundation (think Katrina). Having out of state offsite back up was ALL that saved our studio.
