Please log in for more thread options I just bought a couple of cheapie LCD HDTVs. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16889197004&Tpk=aoc%20L22W761 It has an RS-232 port that appears to be a means of control. I've seen some projects where they've hooked that port up to an IR receiver to enable more control of the device than the stock remote. I've looked around for a description of the protocol and command set, but have found a lot of variation. This LG monitor has a very sophisticated system: (page marked 86) http://www.rdex.net/projects/lg_tv/37lc7d.pdf This gateway one is simple by comparison: http://support.gateway.com/s/Manuals/Desktops/8508947/8508947.htm So, I suspect that I will need a command reference to get anywhere. I've written AOC, but in the realistic scenario where they don't give it up, where can I get that info? A related question: Does anyone know who really makes this unit, or at least the part that includes the RS-232 control/service interface? | |||||||||||||

There is a manual here, but it is silent about the RS-232. http://www.aocdisplay.com/envision/manuals/L22W761.pdf Their other manuals seem to be similar (as in, useless). One mentioned the RS-232 is "for update", implying you could somehow update the firmware in the unit. http://www.envisiondisplay.com/support.asp?EPage=support&SMenu=manual A screwdriver could answer some of your questions, but then it depends on whether the unit has any "warranty void" stickers, as to whether that is a good idea.
