Please log in for more thread options Primary Master: Western Digital Primary Slave: some other hard drive Secondary Master: CD ROM Secondary Slave: another hard drive My problem: My WD drive has a major malfunction and needs formatted and Windows reinstalled. Not feeling like doing it right now I replaced the WD with my backup drive, a Maxtor that I had set up the same day I originally setup my WD. I have no problem with the above setup with the WD but my Maxtor will not read the Primary Slave drive but it does read the Secondary Slave drive. I disconnected the Secondary and it still will not read the Primary Slave. Help appreciated.

Please log in for more thread options Try different jumper settings on both the master and slave (primary). If using master and slave jumpers, try cable select on either and/or both.

Maybe right-click "My Computer", hit "Manage" and go to Disk Management to see. You won't be able to change the letter for the Maxtor unless you put it in another Windows machine to do so. (Or put the WD back in if it's still operable, with the Maxtor as slave and, in that disk management panel, remove the drive letter from the Maxtor. Windows will call it C:\ if it doesn't have a letter when it boots from it anyway.) -- TTFN. Shaun.
