Very little. The SB5120 uses a different chipset, one which some people consider slightly superior. About the only functional difference that I've heard of is that if you look at the signal levels page wihle the modem is searching for the downstream channel, the SB5100 will show the RF signal level on whatever channel the modem is scanning at that moment, whereas the SB5120 will just show "...." for the downstream signal level.
