Linksys RV082 VPN/Router firewall capability

Hi all,

I'm looking at SOHO firewalls. This is for an office of five people where a server with one nic is connected to a dsl modem/router which is connected via a dynamic address to the internet. No real firewall - just NAT.

I see that the Linksys RV082 VPN/Router has an SPI firewall and good user reviews for ease of use. Do you think this would be about as good a firewall as a SonicWALL TZ 170?

The Linksys doesn't highlight the firewall capability so much while the SonicWALL does which made me wonder.

Thanks in advance!

Is the Linksys Certified as a firewall - nope, it's not really a firewall.

Don't fall for the marketing hype, get a real firewall if you have something to protect.

Makes sense. How do I find out if an appliance is "certified" as a firewall?

You can start here:

You can also enter "firewall certification testing" into a google search.
