Pixelation in fiber optic scope

A flexible endoscope or borescope sends the image down an ordered fiber

optic bundle so that the position of each fiber is the same at each end

of the bundle. With high magnification at the viewing end one can see the individual fibers. This fiber structure can be annoying. What methods are used to remove the fiber structure and what effect do they have on resolution?
