I have an FC connector on an optical card that has somehow become magnetized. Dust is collecting quickly on the fiber tip no matter how many times I clean it. How can I demagnetize the connector?

Radio Shack sells demagnitizers for old VHS tapes. We have a few around here and they seems to do the trick for screw drivers. There are
2 kinds, some that require electricitiy and some that use fixed magnets. I have only ever worked with the AC kind. There basically generate an AC magnetic field and if you bring your connector close to it and back it away slowly it should leave verry little reminante field.
