Replacement for Netgear GS108

The Netgear GS108 10/100/1000 gige switch apparently has some known issues that result in its dropping computers from a network. Can someone recommend a very small 8 port switch that can be used for 100/1000 ethernet connections? We use these to connect a few computers into a subnet behind a firewall.

I've had excellent experience with the D-Link DGS-2208

The Cisco SLM2008 is 5.12 in. x 1.12 in. x 5.12 in.

How small are you looking for?

That's a nice dimension. Do you know if there is any reason to prefer the Cisco logo version to the older Linksys SL2008?

We are trying to fit as many of these units as possible onto a single 1U tray. Each switch represents a separate subnet on a firewall.

What would be really nice would be a rackmount enclosure that mounts something like the SLM2008 vertically in several separate slots, or alternately something that looks like a small switch where each plug in module is a separate isolated switch not sharing data with any other card.

We don't want to use any kind of VLAN on a larger switch, both because of the hassle of maintaining it, as well as because we don't trust the technology. Separate physical switches are easier to understand and maintain.

No idea what, if any, changes might have been made.

Does "very small" include the power supply?

A small external AC to DC power supply is fine.

There are some small, 8 port HP ProCurve switches:

*) 1400-8G (J9077A) H 1.73" D 4.58" W 7.73" - it has a 24 port big brother and the only image may be that of the big brother. Unmanaged. *) 1410-8G (J959A) H 0.96" D 3.80" W 6.14" - again it has bigger brothers. Unmanaged. *) 1700-8 (J9079A) H 1.73" D 4.58" W 7.73" - it has a big brother. web managed. *) 1810G-8 (J9079A) H 1.73" D 4.58" W 7.73" - it has a big brother. web managed.

There are some PoE models I've not included.
