I have a query regarding gigabit ethernet performance monitoring. I am working on a an application wherein an incoming stream of gigabit ethernet packets is groomed and converted into 8 streams of STM1 traffic. On the opposite side that is egress, reverse of this is done. We have a hardware device to do it. However, the converted and incoming stream of Gigabit ethernet packets needs to be monitored for performance i.e., all types of errors, failiures alarms etc have to be recorder and certain decisions have to be taken on the basis of these.
I want to know which all parameters metrics are there in an ethernet packet for which performance monitoring could be done. I hope if some one has designed a Performance Management module of Gigabit ethernet system, he would be able to solve my problem.
