Limits on IGMP tuning parameters

RFC 2236 specifies some interrelationships between parameters (e.g., "[Group Membership Interval] MUST be ((the Robustness Variable) times (the Query Interval)) plus (one Query Resopnse Interval)" and some default values (e.g., the default Query Interval is 125 seconds) but I can't find any ranges for valid values. Surely some values would be ridiculous (a 1 year Query Interval ;-), but are there generally accepted or widely used limits on the values? Should Query Interval never be less than one minute? Never more than 10 minutes? Is there some discussion group or mailing list where this is hashed out?

TIA.

The query interval should not *normally* be less than about one minute, however, as the RFC says, when a router is first brought on line, it might want to query more frequently to get up to speed quickly on multicast group membership.

I don't think there are any magic rules here. It's all about setting up your network properly so as not to overload it with overhead traffic, balanced against the benefits of not forwarding multicast traffic if there are no members in a particular group.
