I need a 24-port gigabit switch to work in a quiet office environment.
I've read reviews of the most popular switches that suggest that they
have very loud fans. Does anyone know of one which is quiet?

What is your definition of quiet?

Does the switch need to be a managed switch, or would an unmanaged
switch suffice?

The unmanaged 1400-24G has no fan:

(it replaces the 2700 series)

The webmanaged 1800-24G also has no fan:

The "fully managed" (has a serial port :) 2800's have a fan:

There are other small to large ProCurve switches whos specs you can
peruse via http://www.hp.com/go/procurve

these opinions are mine, all mine; HP might not want them anyway... :)
feel free to post, OR email to rick.jones2 in hp.com but NOT BOTH...

Very cool. Just what I was looking for. Price seems competitive as well.
