Is it me, or has this newsgroup gone dormant? I have seen (almost)
nothing but spam for weeks. Perhaps Usenet itself is nearing the end of
its useful life, at least in NNTP distribution form, as opposed to
web-based social networks.

Other newsgroups I read seem to be doing fine. It may be that
nothing interesting is happening in ethernet. It does what
it is supposed to do.

I might have some questions soon, though. I have a Digilent
Spartan3E board which has a LAN83C185 PHY connected to an FPGA.
The MAC has to be implemented in the FPGA, most likely in verilog
(or VHDL, but verilog if I do it). Even more, I might want a
MAC that looks like some older systems, so that might take some
debugging.

Otherwise, it should be a good sign. That non-ethernet questions,
such as IP questions, go to the appropriate group.

Well, its summer time, so fewer homework questions :-)

It has seemingly been unnaturally quiet in this group lately.

It might be fun to speculate about how long it will be before "disk
access" over Ethernet completely displaces HBAs, disk adapters etc. .

I'll take 2016 in the pool.

If you really mean "completely" then I will take "when Earth no longer
has a molten core" :)
