Please log in for more thread options Has anyone ever called the semiconductor technical support help lines of major companies? If so, what is your experience? I have called National, Maxim, Analog Devices, and Texas Instruments on numerous occasions, and for the most part they have been pleasant. I have a couple of years of industry experience under my belt, and I have recently started several refresher courses in hopes of acquiring a MSEE. I get the impression that the engineers I speak to are either young juniors like myself, or if they are knowledgeable they are not actually the chip designer. They are using their 15+ years of experience on a part they may not be familiar with. Which from a practical stand point, makes sense. I am sure chip designers have better things to do than phone and/or email support. The only grievance is that TI does not seem to support students anymore, and overall they make you go through a rigamaroo when you first call in. Name, Company, Phone, Email, Address, Social, Credit Card etc. Something about export restrictions. Which I am surprised because no one else asks for an address. Name, Company, Phone, maybe email depending on who it is. No hassle, and right to an engineer. But like I said, once TI finds out that I am a student, I get the clamp and no one ever gets back to me. With their competitors it is easy to get through to an engineer. I make it a point to state that I am a student, and they seem not to care. I have also noticed that every once and a while you will get a very detailed answer via email like the person is preempting questions or points out areas of concerns pro actively. Other times, it is just an answer to my question. Both are good, but getting a 'beyond the call of duty' answer is surely worth future inquiries. | ||||||||||
