Please log in for more thread options I'm curious about exactly what softwares use timestamp ICMP messages. Here is what I read: ...Hosts on different networks who attempt to communicate with software that requires time synchronization can encounter problems. The ICMP timestamp message... Please log in for more thread options stations running IP to synchronize their clocks but later developments like Network Time Protocol (NTP) seem to have made the ICMP timestamp message irrelevant and so this does not get used much (if at all) anymore for this purpose. However, it seems to be helpful in some less than desirable conditions for mapping networks. Look at http://www.networkuptime.com/nmap/page4-7.shtml for instance.
