RSTP info on proposal

Hi,

Need help to understand if the proposal will be sent if there is no change in the port role when there is change in the root bridge.

I have three switches connected like this. S1-----2/39--------2/39-----S2---2/37----------------5/37---S3.

Initially S1 is the root, so port 2/37 on S2 will be the designated port. Suppose I decrease the priority os S2 such that it takes over as new Root bridge. Will there be any proposal sent on port 2/37 as the port roles does not change (it still remains as designated port only) after taking over as new root bridge.

Appriciate any help.

Thanks,

-Srini.

Make sure to set your uplink ports (connecting your switches) on full duplex (not auto) pick 10or100or1000BT not auto, and set them up as trunks, leave the rest to default.

Joting this down out of memory, could be wrong, but trial and failure is a good approach to troubleshooting
