Port activation delay on 2924XL

When a computer is powered on, the cisco switch keeps that newly activaled ethernet port in "amber" for about 30 seconds. According to what I read, this is to ensure that any spanning tree issues are handled should that port be connected to another switch/router.

Is there a way to configure an interface to tell the switch that there are never to be any spanning tree issues on that port and to activate it as soon as it sees a signal on it ? (aka, when it is a single computer connected to a port).

I have machines that boot off the network, so delay in forwarding traffic means delay in the start of the boot process.
