Input & Output bytes question

Hello,

This is a simple question that I can't figure out

I have a router with 3 serial interface and 1 ethernet interface, we have been experiencing low speeds on our wan links so I'm trying to figure out where most of the traffic is coming from. When I do show interface it gives me the counters for each interface which has INPUT and OUTPUT statistics, and I can't figure out which is what.

For example

Corp LAN Router E0/0 Router S0/0 Branch LAN Ethernet Input Ethernet Output Serial Input Serial Output

Is this correct if I'm looking at statistics on our main router? or is it the other way, I'm just trying to figure out which way the traffic is flowing, because on one of the interfaces there was over 2 gigs of data transferred and I know thats that way too much data for the application that they use.

I don't really understand your diagram above, but input and output are relative to the router, not the network. Think of the router as a train or bus station -- input is passengers arriving, output is passengers leaving.
