Cisco 3600 router configuration - Frame Relay

Hello:

I have a 3640 in a Frame Relay, hub-n-spoke configuration with 8 other

1602 routers - the 3640 is connected to a T1 and is the hub to the other 8 routers, which are at a 56K each.

I have a 3620 that I would like to be a backup router to the 3640, I have limited experience with Cisco and hoped, by simply copying the config from the production router to the backup router, it would work without problems. However, after putting it on line, this is not the case and the serial interface shows down/down.

The hardware is basically the same, so I can't figure out where the problem lies.

Advice?

Thanks in advance, Drew McCurdy

Hi,

Yes that should work (providing the hardware is the same), however by default the Interfaces are shutdown in a new config. Can you see the line "shutdown" on the serial interface? If not then post the config here of both routers as well as the output from "show version" and "show diag" - (may not work on 3600's).

Thanks for the quick response, James. In answer to your response about the default of the interfaces being shutdown on a new config, I did do a "no shut" command on the interfaces to make sure they were active.

The one difference in hardware that I see is that the production router's serial interface is DSCC4 and the backup router's serial interface is QUICC as show below - not sure what this is. I've included the Serial and one sub-interface from each router in addition to the diag and ver for each. The are shown in that order beginning with the production server first.

Detroit is the production router shown below:

Hi Drew,

The Interfaces are differen't on each router however I have no experience of using these Interfaces, also the software version on the

3620 is older than on the 3640.

I have no idea what the problem is though, I would suggest maybe posting the configs from each router here and seeing if anyone else has any ideas.
