Studying for the CCNA exam, I came across the following sample question:

Which of the following is an example of a valid unicast host IP address?
A. 172.31.128.255./18
B. 255.255.255.255
C. 192.168.24.59/30
D. FFFF.FFFF.FFFF
E. 224.1.5.2
F. All of the above

It looks like "none of the above" to me, but the stated answer was "A".
Isn't 172.31.128.255/18 a broadcast address?

No, since 172.31.128.255/18 means 172.31.128.0 - 172.31.191.255

No. Convert it in BITs and split according to subnet to network and host
pieces:

172.31.128.255 = 10101100 00011111 10 | 000000 11111111

Network = 10101100 00011111 10
Host = 000000 11111111

Good luck,

Mike
