Hi,

Does anyone know if I can use a 3500 XL, and some how do a IOS upgrade
or change a chip on the motherboard to make it a Layer 3 switch?

Thank You,

Victor

The documentation is pretty clear that they are layer 2 switches, so
there wouldn't be anything supported.

The 3500XL series uses the PowerPC403 processor; the 2900XL series
uses the PowerPC403GA processor. Nothing else appears to use the same
processor. If you were able to find a layer 3 device that used
an -older- PowerPC model, you -might- be able to get somewhere
(but I wouldn't expect much out of it.) I say "older" PowerPC model
in that a newer PowerPC CPU might happen to have features that are
not backwards compatible.
