2 Subnet mask on Cisco 1721 from ISP

Hi,

I am curretly given 2 static public IP by my ISP. I am using a cisco 1721 router to link to the internet. Behind my router is a CiscoVPN 300 box that is having a site to site link to my oversea network. There is no firewall box at all.

My exitsing lan user are using the VPN 300 Lan interface private IP as the gateway address to go to the internet.

Assuming on the below IP address on my cisco device

Cisco 1721 router wan interface IP: 203.116.1.1/30 VPN 300 Wan interface IP :203.116.1.2/30 VPN 300 Lan interface :192.168.1.1/24

I am planing to upgrade by internet bandwidth to a hgher speed and I will be issue with14 more IP

My ISP said it is possible to retain my exitsing 2 IP in a /255.255.255.252 subnet mask and add in addtional 14 ip in a /255.255.255.240 subnet mask on the existing Cisco 1721 box.

  1. Can Someone explain to me how this concept work as I am very new to cisco device.
  2. Is there any thing that needed to be done at the VPN box, once the new subnet range is configure at the cisco 1721router

  1. If I add in a web server that use one of the new 14 IP. how can it be communcating with my existing subnet since it is from 2 differnt subnet.

I am assuming that you are havinga single ISp and hosted on 1721 router.

Following can be the scenerio for your help: Router Wan Intterface Internal INT Exernal INT Internal INT X.X.X.X/255.255.255.240--Router--203.116.1.1/30

203.116.1.1/30--VPN300 --X.X.X.X

You can use the 14 IPS for Router/WAN manupulation ie.

  1. WAN Interface for Connectivity
  2. NAT
  3. PAT
  4. Static Routing.

And rest 2 for Communication between VPN 300 and Router.

Thanks Chetan Kamra
