How do you ping a port on a switch from the host? I was doing some labs the other day and came across this. My teacher was a stumped as I was. Does anyone know?

You can't ping a port on a switch since it doesn't have an ip address.

You can't ping an individual port, uness that port is configured with its own IP address.
It is not an unreasonable assumption that if from a PC one can ping the management address of the switch that the switch port is alive.
