CDP ?

When doing a

SHOW CDP NEIGHBORS DETAIL

on a switch, what information will be given about the hosts.

The Cisco book says that only Cisco devices will be described, but the output shows an H for host. PCs (hosts) are not going to be a Cisco device.

Will it give the IP, MAC address, host name... on a given switch port?

Thank you for the help,

John

doubt that it would show HOST information .. since HOSTs dont send out CDP packets.. (unless configured i guess?) ..

Not necessarily Cisco devices, but devices supporting CDP protocol. For example, many HP ProCurve switches support CDP, therefore show on the list.

Without CDP Monitor (or other program supporting CDP talk) PC hosts are not going to be CDP enabled. I find it quite strange that you see neighbouring PCs on your switch... but maybe I don't know something I should.

For me, nope, unless CDP is configured with software on a host.

Cisco Call Manager is a pc that runs CDP. Can't remember off the top of my head what capabilities it shows in cdp on the switch.
