Are there invalid setups on the CCNA exam?

I have been through several updates of a practice test, and most of the questions I noticed that contained errors have been corrected, but one error persists. There is a setup with 5 routers, giving the ip address and sometimes subnet mask on tneir ports. The problem is to determine which links can be broken and still maintain full network connectivity.

The problem is that unless you "connect" all ports on the same subnets to each other, there is no connectivity in the first place, but to make those connections, you have to "connect" ethernet ports to serial ports. Once you do that, then there is one answer to the problem.

But we know we can't connect serial ports to ethernet, and as far as I know there is no "adapter" that will make it possible to do so.

Just curious if the fact that this has not been fixed in newer databases of the practice exam means I should expect such incorrect setups on the real exam.

From the above I can not tell if it is an incorrect question or your assumtions of the solution. All I can say is that I have not heard of a real Cisco exam having questions that have an outcome as you suggest so either the problem you encounter is only a problem in the practice question you have tried or your methology is incorrect.

Do you have a link to the question or can you post it directly and we will look at it and hopefully rip the question to shreds.

My comment: Unless you connect serial interfaces to ethernet interfaces that happen to be on the same subnet, there is is no overall connectivity without adding other unlisted routers anyway. But one cannot just connect ethernet to serial interfaces, so this really has no answer.

I aggree. If they were all the same type of interfane though and a routing protocol was used advertising all subnets on all interfaces (we shouldn't assume this is in place either) then it would be D.

You definately wont see this mistake on an actual exam.
