Wiring Manufactures

While bidding vendors for a new facility @ work we have recieved bids containing products(wiring, patch panels, and jacks) from Hubbell, AMP, and Bertek/Ortronics. We have only used Bertek/Ortronics in the past. Does anyone have any past expierences with Hubbell or AMP as far as quality of product? From the bids (and from previous experience we know that Ortonics is good, but expensive and we also have seen that the AMP is the cheapest with Hubbell somewhere in the middle. Does the pricing say anything about the quality?

Hubbel makes some nice equipment.

Maybe you can ask to see some of the equipment before deciding? I'm sure the sales people would be more than happy to show you it ; )

I've been using AMP product in my own LAN for years. Readily available at Graybar, pretty nice stuff, and very reasonably priced.

Hubbell is one of the best makers of electrical connection products on the planet.

You won't go wrong either way, IMO.

Personaly, I'd go with the Berktek/Ortronics. Berktek has always been my prefered cable. I've not used Ortronics too much, but wasn't overly impressed with the older stuff (Series II), but others have told me that the newer stuff (TracJack line) is much better.

Hubbell would not be a bad choice either. The cable choice could be a factor as well though, you should find out on that one.

These are all brand name companies so the quality should be decent. If you're getting stuff that says Made in China, then I'd have serious doubts.

The thing I've learned is that the bid price doesn't tell the whole story. The total cost of ownership depends on the quality of the product. A lower quality product won't give you headroom and will put you at risk for problems. If your system is down, the loss of productivity can cost the company much more than the price of a good quality cabling system.

Another vendor you should add to your list is Siemon. They are known for their high quality products and they have a lot of options. Their website is
