Demac box

None of the five outfits in town that supply us has a demarc box available.

What we need to do is bridge the phone and cable from the house to the shop (30 feet) with one cat 5e and one RG-6.

Anybody know of a supply for a demarc that would do phone and one rg-6?

Thanks

If your shop is only 30 feet away, you don't need protectors on both sides and therefore you don't need too much of a cable housing. That is, unless you live in a very lightning intensive area such as FL - check your locally accepted electrical code. Even then you are probably going to do fine but don't take my word for it - check it with your local AHJ.

Additionally, the demark box serves the purpose of, naturally, dividing the phone company's wiring and your private inside wiring. In your case both ends of the cables belong to you, so you do not need that function either. If you want this to look super nice you can just buy two 14" (between the studs) Leviton enclosures either online (example, not endorsement:

) or in your local Home Depot or some other decent hardware store along with two CAT5E inserts and two RG6 inserts.

Otherwise, if those are just two extension cables, you can probably get away by simply connectorizing both ends. Aesthetically the cables look better if concealed in enclosures, but that would set you back couple hundred $, so you decide. The actual demark boxes(NIDs) would cost even more, BTW.

Dmitri is right...you don't need an "official" as a demarcation point and you don't need the station protection.

Lowes and Home Depot carry a grey PVC weather proof box that you can cut a hole in the bottom. The box should be big enough to hold one of those outlet boxes you place in a wall...use a face plate with the necessary jacks. Looks nice and outdoor rated. You might also want to run a length of #10 gauge or so common ground wire with your cable run.
