port forwarding on smc 8014

I am hoping someone can give me a little advice. I have a smc 8014 cable modem and I need to forward a port on this gateway device. It has a built in firewall with an "access control" setting. I get the port forwarding but do I need to add an entry in the access control area as well? Thanks in advance!
