I have a liftmaster garage door opener. The receiving eye has stopped
lighting the green led on the unit even when adjusted. I think it is dead.
I want to test the opener without the beams attached to see if I need a
whole new unit or just new beams. Can this unit be tested without the beams
attached? How?
Thanks

The photo-cells have to be connected for the unit to work properly.
Swap the two photo-cells, if the same one still fails to light it is
in the photo-cell, if it stays on the same side the problem is in the
wire or the unit. The opener should open fine without the photo-cells
working properly, but you have to hold constant pressure on the wall
button to get it to close. If it works in both directions in this
manner the problem is usually either in the photo-cells or the
photo-cell wiring.
